About The Webinar
Black mothers frequently demonstrate remarkable strength and resilience (and serve as pillars of the African-American community). However, Black mothers are not immune to experiencing sadness, depression, anxiety, trauma-related conditions, substance abuse, and/or eating disorders. In this training session, Dr. Cirecie West-Olatunji and Dr. Constance West (Co-Founders of CRESTS-Achieve) discussed the prevalence of mental health conditions in Black mothers, highlighting the unique needs of these women. In addition, Drs. West-Olatunji and West presented research findings on the relationship between mothers' mental health status and their children's academic achievement and emotional well-being. Finally, Drs. West-Olatunji and West identified culture-centered, trauma-informed clinical interventions that can be effectively used to address the mental health needs of Black mothers.
